Hi guys, it’s your trusty editor Shannon, and IT IS A BIG DAY FOR COVERS IN THE WORLD OF ADVENTURE TIME! 

We’ve got awesome ADVENTURE TIME #8 covers by the trusty Chris Houghton, indie superstar Drew Weing, the talented Colleen Coover, and superstar cartoonist Phil McAndrew coming at you!

In the world of MARCELINE AND THE SCREAM QUEENS #3, we have a RAD homage to Liz Phair’s “Exile in Guyville” from JAB, a sick concert poster from Yuko Ota, and a limited variant cover from the incredible Vera Brosgol. 

These are some of my favorite covers we’ve ever done, and you can get them all this September! ROCK ‘EM SOCK ‘EM!

Secret Project Revealed: ADVENTURE TIME Miniseries!

I’m very excited to announce that I’m currently writing (and soon to be drawing) an Adventure Time comic miniseries called Adventure Time: Marceline and the Scream Queens. It stars the Vampire Queen and Princess Bubblegum on a rock tour together! It’s going to thrill n’ stuff!

What’s even more awesome is the list of talented people who’ll be contributing to the first issue (yes, this is ONLY the first!):

It also has a backup by Koko Be Good‘s Jen Wang with variant covers by Chynna Clugston, Lucy Knisley, Ming Doyle and Colleen Coover. That’s one a hell of an A-list credit list.

WHY ARE YOU SO LAME, THURSDAY?!” Well, have I got a lame Thursday cure for YOU! It’s the covers for the ADVENTURE TIME comic’s spin-off mini-series, MARCELINE AND THE SCREAM QUEENS #2! Here, FOR THE FIRST TIME ANYWHERE! Featuring a Sleater-Kinney self-titled album tribute cover from JAB on the A cover, ADVENTURE TIME artist Shelli Paroline on B cover duty, the insanely talented Erica Henderson on cover C, and the AMAZING Jen Wang on the D cover!

heya! Long time fan, I'd like to ask: What comics do you like to read when you're not working on your own?

My awful secret as a cartoonist is I don’t get around to reading many comics, aside from my post-convention haul. Most of my inspiration comes from music and TV. Lately I’ve really enjoyed HBO’s John Adams series, Girls, Adventure Time, and Out of the Vinyl Deeps, a book of essays on 60s/70s rock by Ellen Willis.

As far as comics go I’m starting to read Naoki Urasawa’s 20th Century Boys, which is brilliant so far. It drives me crazy how good the layouts are.

I really enjoy limitations, either self-imposed or laid out by others. It was great figuring out the Adventure Time characters, a real challenge at first before it gradually felt more natural. I watched the show and read the AT wiki exhaustively for months, and it still took a long while to feel PB and Marceline out.

Working with my editor at BOOM really helped me tighten up my comics, I think. I knew I had to impress Shannon so I made my layouts as clear as possible and simplified dialogue wherever I could. Each chapter was strictly 15 pages and no more, so I had to keep a pace with it. When I’m working on my webcomics, I can stretch out a story too far or get lazy with the art. My plan going forward is to pretend I’m still sending comics to Shannon.
