Nobody’s going to fall in love with your characters on day 1 so don’t worry about that. If you’ve got the characters fleshed out then it’s all about story and pacing.
Elaborate stories often treat the characters as chess pieces; it’s up to you to create situations where the characters have room to breathe and interact with each other, and make decisions that define them. Ultimately I think those are the moments where people grow to love and identify with your characters.
You’ll probably also find that characters change once you start drawing and writing them. It’s impossible to plan ahead for the best characters - you’ll get to know them in all kinds of awesome ways. So yeah, allow this change to happen!
