do you enjoy being an internet celebrity? does the social media facet of being an artist ~on the internet~ give you pleasure or satisfaction, or is it a huge chore / source of frustration/necessary evil? has getting a contract or salary or whatever for the marceline comics (or your teaching thing) changed your perspective from when you were octopus pie only?

haha the use of the term “celebrity” is very confusing to me. It is nice to be recognized by a (very) small niche of people who admire my work. I think the worst part of internet pseudo-fame comes from the perception of “celebrity” itself. To me that is the cause of a lot of unrealistic expectations and resentment.

Yes having paid work changes your perspective. I’ve been working freelance and occasionally on salary for the entire time Octopus Pie has been running, so it’s nothing new. It definitely makes me a bit more dismissive to demands for faster updates. OP supports me, but it’s a fun and rewarding alternative to better-paying commercial work, so sometimes I like to take my time with it.
